The Kit Cat Klock, an iconic American timepiece, has been delighting people since its inception in 1932. Designed by Earl Arnault, this unique clock has become a symbol of joy and resilience, weathering the challenges of the Great Depression and continuing to captivate audiences across the globe.

The story of the Kit Cat Klock begins in the 1930s, when the Allied Clock Company was founded in Portland, Oregon to manufacture these enchanting pendulum clocks. The earliest models were marked by their metal bodies, metal clock hands, and four-toed paws. These early clocks required a starter knob or aperture to set the motor spinning in the right direction, as self-starting motors were not yet widely used in clocks at the time.

As the decades passed, the Kit Cat Klock underwent a few design changes, including the addition of the top paws and a dapper bow tie. The 1940s and 1950s saw a surge in the clock's popularity, solidifying its place as a quintessential symbol of the 1950s in America.

In 1962, the company relocated to Southern California and renamed itself the California Clock Company. In 1982, Woody Young, a serial entrepreneur from Ohio, took over as President and Owner, determined to keep the Kit Cat Klock legacy alive.

However, the American-made heritage of the Kit Cat Klock was nearly lost in the late 1980s, as the manufacturing of electric motors shifted almost exclusively to Asia. Facing the challenge of finding a battery motor powerful enough to maintain the clock's exclusive "one-second" animation, the California Clock Company worked tirelessly to develop a new battery technology.

Through the 1990s and into the new millennium, the Kit Cat Klock continued to evolve, with the introduction of limited color editions and the iconic Lady Kit Cat, complete with pearls and eyelashes.

Celebrations of the clock's milestones have been equally remarkable. In 2007, the 75th anniversary was marked by the "Great All American Road Show," which spanned 75 days along Route 66. This event featured the world's largest Kit Cat Klock, standing at an impressive 75 inches tall, and a specially painted 75-year-old Ford Deuce.

The 80th anniversary in 2012 was celebrated with the Kit Cat Klock sponsoring the only 100% U.S. grown commercial float in the Pasadena Rose Parade.

Today, after 85 years, the Kit Cat Klock remains a beloved timepiece, with someone purchasing a Kit Cat Klock every 3 minutes for the past 50 years. The classic black Kit Cat Klock, measuring 15.5 inches from ears to tail, continues to captivate audiences with its rolling eyes, wagging tail, and contagious smile, proudly made in America by the original manufacturer.
